27-year-old man was in the middle of his wedding ceremony when the Juhu police reached his house to arrest him on the charge of rape.
According to the Juhu police the accused identified as Mohitkumar Bale Ram was absconding since August 2020.
Shashikant Mane, senior police inspector of Juhu police station said that on August 26th a 29-year-old had approached them and registered an FIR against Ram for raping her. Mane added that Ram and the woman had been living together in an apartment in Juhu since June. The victim in her statement claimed that Ram who used to work in a showroom had befriended her as she used to pass by area daily. The two were in a relationship for three months during which the accused raped her on the pretext of marraige.
“As soon as the lockdown restrictions were lifted Ram had fled to his village dumping the woman,” said Mane.
Following this the woman approached the Juhu police and registered a case of rape against Ram.
The police officers said that when they began tracing Ram’s phone they noticed that he had been changing his location.
On Wednesday when the police tracked Ram’s phone to Madhubani in Bihar following which a team left for the village to arrest Ram.
“When we reached there we saw that a marriage function was going on. On searching the place and showing Ram’s photo around, we noticed that the accused was dressed in the outfit of the groom and it was his marriage function underway,” said Mane.
After a resistance from the locals there, the Juhu police arrested Ram with the help of the local police officers.
“We have arrested Ram on the charge of rape and brought him to Mumbai on Thursday,” added Mane.
