Five persons were arrested on Monday by the Mulund police in connection with the murder of a 30-year-old peon working at the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) on Sunday.
According to police, the five were arrested after the peon, Akshay Narvekar, succumbed to stab injuries he sustained after an argument with the accused over clearing bill at a chicken shop. His friend Akash Sable, 30, is still undergoing treatment.
The incident took place on Sunday around 9.30 pm when Narvekar and Sable went to a chicken shop owned by the accused Imran Khan, 27, and his brother Salim Khan, 29. Police said the two sides got into an argument, following which the siblings along with three others attacked Narvekar and Sable with rods and choppers and the latter were beaten until unconscious.
The accused then rushed the two to the local hospital where Narvekar succumbed to injuries. The hospital informed Mulund police, who registered a murder case against the accused and arrested the five allegedly involved in the murder.
An officer said Narvekar and Sable had gone to another chicken shop owned by the Khan siblings in Thane earlier on Sunday and had gotten into an argument over payment. While the matter was resolved then, the two sides came to blows again at night when Narvekar and Sable visited the Mulund shop owned by the accused.
An officer said the accused have been booked on charges of murder, attempt to murder, and criminal conspiracy. They were produced before the court on Monday and remanded in police custody.
