AURANGABAD: Sixteen people, including two women, were sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Rs 25,000 each for the 2020 murder of a 60-year-old man in Bihar’s Aurangabad district over suspicion of ‘witchcraft’.
The punishment was announced by the court of additional district and sessions judge II, Dhananjay Mishra. All convicts belong to Ibrahimpur village, as did the deceased Jagdish Ram.On Aug 13, 2020, Jagdish was attacked with sharp weapons after villagers suspected the sexagenarian to be involved in ‘witchcraft’.
Those sentenced include Suresh Ram (60), Ravindra Ram (42), Surendra Ram (30), Satyendra Ram (32), Maharaj Ram (56), Uday Ram (45), Shatrughan Ram (42), Vineet Ram (32), Manorama Devi (30), Sudama Ram (27), Balinder Ram (28), Rakesh Ram (25), Ramdev Ram (30), Rajan Ram (42), Lalita Devi (35) and Mukesh Ram (23).
