New Delhi: After sweeping the Andhra Pradesh assembly elections with a thumping majority of 164, the NDA coalition is all set to form the government. Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supremo Chanbdrababu Naidu will be sworned-in as the next chief minster of Andhra Pradesh on June 12.
Three parties – BJP, TDP and Jana Sena – fought the Andhra Pradesh assembly election as part of the NDA coalition, winning 165 of the total 175 seats, with TDP alone contributing 135 of that share. While, opponent YSCRP was cornered with just 11 seats in its kitty. TDP Janasena has 21 legislators in the 175-member House, while BJP bagged 8 seats.
The NDA leaders met in Andhra Pradesh‘s Vijaywada on Tuesday and elected Chandrababu Naidu as their leader. Following this, the Andhra Pradesh NDA leaders met Governor S Abdul Nazeer and requested him to invite TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu to form the new government.
Governor Invites Naidu
Senior TDP leader K Atchen Naidu said that Governor Nazeer has agreed to invite Chandrababu Naidu to form the government. “Leaders of all the three parties (TDP, Janasena & BJP) met the Governor and requested him to invite Chandrababu Naidu to immediately form the government. And he (Nazeer) told us that he will immediately extend the invitation to form the government,” said Atchen Naidu, as quoted by PTI.
Naidu first became the chief minister in 1995 and went on to have another two terms. In 2014, Naidu emerged as the first chief minister of bifurcated Andhra Pradesh and served it until 2019. He lost the 2019 polls to remain an opposition leader until 2024.
Pawan Kalyan To Be Appointed As Deputy CM: Sources
Sources exclusive to Republic have claimed that Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan is likely to be appointed as the deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. Pawan Kalyan has been elected as the floor leader in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly. Janasena Tenali legislator N Manohar proposed Pawan Kalyan’s name as the floor leader in the Assembly, which was unanimously supported by other members.
Actor-turned-politician Pawan Kalyan won the Pithapuram Assembly seat, defeating his YSR Congress Party candidate Vanga Geetha by a margin of over 70,000 votes. Sources claim that he may be assigned the role of deputy CM in TDP-Jana Sena-BJP government.
30:3:2 – Naidu’s Cabinet Formula
Sources claimed that the TDP may take up 30 ministerial berths, giving 3 to Jana Sena and 2 to ally BJP. he TDP is likely to keep the major portfolios with itself in the state cabinet, said sources. Along with Naidu, some more leaders are likely to swear-in, who could include TDP general secretary and Naidu’s son Nara Lokesh and Janasena leader N Manohar.
This comes just days after two TDP MPs were sworned-in as ministers in Modi 3.0 cabinet. Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, a three-time MP from Srikakulam, has been alloted the Civil Aviation ministry in the Modi cabinet. Naidu is the youngest minister to take oath as part of Modi cabinet. While TDP MP Dr Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar from Guntur took oath as Minister of State.
PM Modi to Attend Naidu’s Swearing-In
Preparations are underway for the grand oath taking ceremony of Chandrababu Naidu. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are likely to attend Naidu’s oath taking ceremony in Andhra Pradesh on June 12.
Reviewing the arrangements for the ceremony, Chief Secretary Neerabh Kumar Prasad said the prime minister is expected to leave from Delhi for Gannavaram Airport at 8.20 am and arrive by 10.40 am on Wednesday, reported PTI. According to the tentative schedule, he said Modi is expected to reach the venue by 10.55 am to participate in the swearing-in ceremony from 11 am to 12.30 pm. Thereafter, the PM is expected to return to the airport at 12.40 pm and take off for Bhubaneswar at 12.45 pm.
