The Mahim police in Mumbai have arrested a BEST bus driver for rash driving that resulted in the death of a pedestrian who was sleeping near the road. The Mahim police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
According to the police the incident took place on Tuesday evening at around 11:20 pm near the outgate of Mahim bus terminus, Mori Road, Mahim West. The Best bus driver has been identified as Yashwant Nangare (56), a resident of Charkop, Kandivli, batch number 24348. “He was driving the BEST bus number MH 01 EM 5510. He drove rashly and with negligence that resulted in taking the life of a pedestrian sleeping near the road. The back tyre of the bus struck the pedestrian who then suffered serious injuries. He was shifted to the hospital where doctors declared him dead,” said a police officer.
Locals gathered at the spot and caught the driver and the pedestrian was shifted to a hospital with the help of police. “We are trying to get identity details of the deceased pedestrian who was sleeping and met with the accident. The BEST driver is arrested and further investigation is going on,” said the police officer.
The Mahim police have registered a case under section 304 (A), 279, 338, 337 of the Indian penal code and sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.
