Ganja worth around Rs 1 crore was seized from a car in Navi Mumbai city of Maharashtra and two people were held in connection with the matter, an official said on Friday, reported the PTI.
According to the PTI, the seizure was made at Taloja by a flying squad of the state excise department on Wednesday.
The ganja stock, weighing 414 kg, was found in a car, which was also seized, he said.
The arrested persons have been identified as 25-year-olds Arif Zakir Sheikh and Parvez Babuali Sheikh, residents of Sion Koliwada in Mumbai, as per the PTI.
As per a release by the excise department, the seized drug is worth about Rs 1 crore.
The Taloja police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, he said.
The police are trying to find out from where the duo had procured the contraband, he added.
Navi Mumbai man held for possessing mephedrone worth Rs 6.5 lakh
Meanwhile, in an another incident last week, the police had arrested a 28-year-old man from Taloja in Navi Mumbai for allegedly carrying mephedrone drug worth Rs 6.5 lakh, an official said on Saturday, reported news agency PTI.
The suspect was identified as Mobin Mehboob Khan, an electrician by profession, an official said.
The action against the suspect was taken by the police at around 10 pm last week on Friday, reported PTI.
“A team of the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Navi Mumbai police in Maharashtra found Mobin Khan moving in a suspicious manner on a ground in Patale village in Navi Mumbai. When the police personnel frisked the Navi Mumbai man, he was found possessing 65 grams of mephedrone (MD) worth Rs. 6,50,000,” the official said, reported PTI.
A case was registered against the Navi Mumbai man under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act at the Taloja police station on Saturday, he said.
In another case, the Kandivli unit of the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) had recently arrested two drug suppliers from the Borivali area of Mumbai with heroin, the ANI had reported.
Reportedly, the cost of seized narcotics was worth Rs 1 crore 12 lakhs in the international markets, weighing around 280 grams.
