UK based couple is wanted by the Khar police for allegedly duping people to the tune of crores by luring them into investing in rare coins and promising them returns as the rate of the coins rose through six websites.
The Khar police were approached by a woman after she allegedly lost Rs 72 lakhs to the UK based couple’s ponzi scheme. Abhishek Trimukhe, Deputy commissioner of police (zone 9) said that the man identified as Ahmed Khan had opened a company named EA Rarcoa Collectibles pvt ltd in Mumbai and Bangaluru and launched six websites. Through the websites he lured people into investing in rare coins and then promising them huge returns as the value of the coins grew.
When the investors demanded answers he asked Shaikh to buy coins from Chor Bazaar and fave it to his clients claiming that he had given them rare and precious coins but warned them not to open the box containing the coin.
After the woman lodged a complaint, the Khar police traced Khan and his wife but they had fled to UK. The police on Wednesday arrested Shaikh from Mumbai Central. On investigating the police found out that Shaikh had collected Rs 1 crore in his company account called Iliana Marketing.
“We have issued lok out notices for Khan and his wife and are investing to find out how many more people have the trio cheated,” said Trimukhe.
