Mumbai: A 31-year-old woman from Andheri (East) died after a tempo pinned her against a wall at Chunawala Compound in Andheri-MIDC on Monday. The incident took place at 7.15pm after Sangita Kawale left her workplace after her shift ended at 7 pm. The MIDC police arrested Mohammed Sallauddin Jafir Ansari (50), the driver who had fled the scene initially.
The victim experienced grave injuries to her hand, leading to fatal blood loss.”Kawale died after she was pinned to the wall by the tempo that entered the compound. The driver has been arrested,” said MIDC police senior inspector Sanjay Chavan. Ansari faces charges under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 106 (1) (causes death of any person by doing any rash or negligent act not amounting to culpable homicide) and Motor Vehicles Act sections.
Kawale was employed part-time at System Printers within Chunawala Compound on Kondivita Road in Andheri (East). Her husband Sainath stated in the complaint: “On Dec 30, at 7.35pm I received a call from Bipin Madane, known to me, informing that my wife met with an accident and suffered severe injuries to her right hand.”
Upon reaching the location, Sainath discovered that a speeding tempo had trapped his wife while entering the compound at 7.15pm. “She was taken to Mukund Hospital in Andheri (East) for immediate treatment. However, due to absence of doctors, she couldn’t receive timely care. She was then transported to Seven Hills hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival. Her condition worsened due to substantial blood loss and anxiety during the urgent search for medical attention,” Sainath mentioned in the FIR.
A police official reported that the victim collapsed due to fear, anxiety and chest pain. Kawale is survived by her husband and their two minor sons.
