NEW DELHI: Bengaluru Police have arrested 21-year-old Aarav Hanoy, accused of murdering 19-year-old vlogger Maya Gogoi, at a service apartment in the city’s Indiranagar locality. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) East, Hanoy was apprehended outside Karnataka following an intense manhunt.
Maya, a native of Assam, was found dead Tuesday morning in a service apartment located opposite Double Road Park in Indiranagar. Employed as a student counsellor at a private company in Koramangala, she had been residing in HSR Layout for the past three years.
Police investigations revealed that Maya checked into Hotel Royal Living on November 23, accompanied by Aarav, a resident of Kannur. The duo had booked the room together, and Aarav allegedly committed the crime the following day, leaving the scene early Tuesday morning.
CCTV footage recovered from the hotel premises shows the pair entering the service apartment together. However, what followed was a harrowing sequence of events. Police sources stated that Aarav stabbed Maya to death and spent nearly 24 hours with her lifeless body before fleeing. Disturbingly, he allegedly smoked calmly near her body before making his escape.
After discovering Maya’s body, police launched an investigation that led to Aarav’s arrest. Details regarding his motive remain under investigation, but preliminary findings suggest a personal dispute may have escalated into violence.
