Mumbai: BJP flags fluttered across south Mumbai as the party prepared to elect its legislative party leader 11 days after it emerged as the largest legislative party in the state with 132 MLAs.
Vidhan Bhavan wore a festive look, decked with yellow and orange marigold flowers. In the Central Hall, where the election of the legislative party leader was held, MLAs were provided with laddoos from Siddhivinayak temple and a rose placed on every desk.
Several MLAs, including Devendra Fadnavis, who was unanimously elected as the legislative party leader, wore a saffron turban.
After the election and speeches, MLAs queued up, some with bouquets brought into the Central Hall by personal assistants who waited patiently outside, and some simply offered the roses on their desks as they congratulated Fadnavis on his election, which cleared the way for him to be sworn in as chief minister for the third time. Fadnavis then went down to pay his respects at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue in Vidhan Bhavan premises.
Some party workers who brought sweets distributed them near the entrance. Laddoos were also distributed at the party office. Thankfully, given Mumbai’s poor air quality, no firecrackers were burst.
