Mumbai: Santacruz Police lodge FIR after comedian Sunil Pal claims he was kidnapped

MUMBAI: The Santacruz Police, on Friday, registered an FIR in connection with the alleged abduction of comedian Sunil Pal. They transferred the case to a police station in Meerut, in whose jurisdiction the incident occurred.
On Tuesday, Pal’s wife approached the Santacruz police station and told the cops that she wasn’t able to get in touch with her husband. She feared he was missing. But later that night, police managed to touch base with him. Pal told them he was on his way back home from North India.
In his statement recorded subsequently at the Santacruz police station, Pal said that he went to perform shows when he was abducted from a dhaba at Meerut. He claimed to be confined at a place where Rs 20 lakh was demanded from him as ransom. Pal told the abductors that he did not have so much money, following which he was asked to call up his friends and make arrangements.
Pal claims to have paid around Rs 8 lakh to the abductors, following which he was released. He then took a flight home.
“The case will be probed further by Meerut police,” said an officer from the Santacruz police station.
