KANPUR: A tragic incident occurred at Veerangana Laxmibai Jhansi railway station when an unknown man died by suicide by jumping onto the engine of the Goa Express at platform one. The person’s body caught fire upon impact, resulting in immediate death.
Officials are investigating how the individual accessed the shed. The incident, which occurred at 10.04 on Friday night, caused a brief delay to the Goa Express service.
The incident involved train number 12780 Goa Express from Hazrat Nizamuddin. Upon the train’s arrival at the station, the individual jumped from the platform shed onto the engine. Contact with the OHE wire caused the person’s body to ignite, leading to their immediate death.
GRP and RPF officials responded to the scene, deactivated the OHE line, and retrieved the body. The incident caused a 45-minute delay to the service. GRP CO Naim Mansuri confirmed receiving reports about the suicide at platform one. The authorities removed the body and initiated legal procedures. They are working to establish the identity of the deceased, estimated to be aged between 40 and 45 years.
The CO additionally noted that initial assessments suggested an electrical short circuit. No witnesses observed the actual jump. Given that the landing point was the engine, authorities believe the person likely jumped from the platform shed. A comprehensive investigation into the incident continues. The train left for its onward journey at 11:49 pm, informed a railway official.
