Ryan Reynolds talked on the challenges of juggling parenting with his prosperous career in a recent interview. He and his wife, Blake Lively, have been trying to raise their four kids in a very grounded setting. Reynolds has daughters James, Inez, Betty, and son Olin with Lively and admitted that their children are growing up with a lifestyle vastly different from their parents. Though they may have a life privileged for their experiences Ryan himself could only wish, he wants them to at least have a childhood life free from the stressors of fame.
Reynolds was reflecting on how his children, for instance, have everything from expensive gifts to takeaway food, which he would never have experienced when growing up. He, however, realized that his kids had nothing to do with their parents’ success. To him, the actor ensured that they have a child’s happy life. “We try to give them as normal a life as possible,” Reynolds shared. “I do not want to impose the difference of their childhood to my childhood or my wife’s childhood. We both are growing up very working class,” he explained.
His children’s way of life differs from his. Still, he said, they already demonstrate strong empathy and gratitude-an indicator to him that they are doing a good job as parents. “They’re already very much in touch with gratitude and understanding the world enough to have a strong sense of empathy,” he added. He also observed how a drastic difference between his past and theirs came to a reality when he realized that “I used to think, ‘Oh God, I would never have had a gift like this when I was a kid,’ but I realized that’s not really their bag of rocks to carry.”
Also in his speech, Reynolds commented on wanting to keep private his children’s lives so they can avoid the spot. During his interview with Andrew Garfield for Actors on Actors on Variety, he expressed that it is pretty hard for him to avoid important events in their life with the way his schedule was set. “Being away from them, especially when I missed their sports events, is hard,” he said. The actor also expressed his sadness about not being able to be present for all of their special moments, emphasizing his commitment to being an engaged father.
In a recent exciting development, Reynolds’ children made their screen debut in the highly anticipated Deadpool & Wolverine film. Yet, even the family’s fame could not make him forget that for him, his children remain the first priority above anything else.
