NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met local fruit vendor Mohini Gowda on Monday during his visit to Sirsi in Karnataka.
Arriving at the helipad, PM Modi‘s first interaction in Sirsi was with Gowda before addressing a public rally in Uttara Kannada district.Mohini Gowda, hailing from Ankola, is known for her fruit-selling business at the Ankola Bus Stand, where she sells fruits wrapped in leaves.She is famous for ensuring cleanliness by collecting discarded leaves and disposing of them properly.
PM Modi paused to engage in conversation with her, gaining insight into her journey and commending her dedication to bolstering the local economy with her small business.
During his rally speech, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the historic representation of MPs and MLAs from SC, ST, and OBC communities in the current ruling government. “Congress never believed in making leaders from the Adivasi or Dalit community. Whereas, the BJP has always tried to give a higher representation to the backward classes”, PM Modi said at the rally.
Highlighting the BJP government’s initiatives, PM Modi cited the transformation of over 100 backward districts into Aspirational Districts. He claimed that this endeavor has led to significant poverty reduction, with over 25 crore people lifted out of poverty in the past decade.
