Mumbai: A building contractor was abducted, confined in a room, and money was demanded from him by a group of men recently. Dongri police have arrested two people and are looking for a third accused.
The complainant resides in Dongri. Police said he had taken a contract from one of the accused. But he neither completed the job nor repaid the Rs 19 lakh that he owed the accused.
Recently, a group of men accosted the complainant in Dongri. They roughed him up and forced him to sit on a motorcycle. One of the accused then drove the motorcycle, with the complainant seated pillion, to Sewri. There, the complainant was confined in a room and assaulted. The accused demanded a sum of Rs 19 lakh from him.
Meanwhile, Dongri police received a complaint and registered an FIR of abduction and extortion. A team led by senior inspector Jitendra Vankoti started investigating the case. The police traced two accused— Abdul Sayyad, 31, and Hanif Khan, 39—and took them into custody. One of their associates is wanted.
Sayyad lives in Sewri while Khan lives in Byculla. Police said the complainant owed money to Sayyad.
