Pop icons Ariana Grande and Selena Gomez set aside any fan-fueled rivalry to embrace warmly at the Academy Women’s Luncheon, presented by CHANEL at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. The meet comes as both stars enjoy critical acclaim for their roles in notable musical films, Wicked and Emilia Pérez.
Grande, dazzling in a silver ensemble, earned a Golden Globe nod for her role as the iconic Glinda in the blockbuster ‘Wicked’. Gomez, on the other hand, earned a nod for her the role of cartel boss’s wife in ‘Emilia Pérez’. Both ladies are now in the running for top honours this awards season. Gomez, a double Golden Globe nominee, has been recognised for her performances in ‘Emilia Pérez’ and the hit series ‘Only Murders in the Building‘.
Videos and photos doing the rounds online see the two stars hugging it out on their arrival. Both were seen chatting for a while before they posed for photos and proceeded to take their seats.
According to Pop Crave, Grande personally requested to sit next to Gomez at the Academy Women’s Luncheon. She said, “I respect her so much, and I’ve always adored her. I was really happy for her to see us on that list together. It was very special.”
Despite their public camaraderie, tensions have brewed among their fanbases. Fans, notorious for their fierce loyalty, have been sparking online wars over the years. The Oscars race has only amplified this frenzy, with pop music stans staking claims in the awards conversation.
Meanwhile, the luncheon was organised to celebrate the women in film. While Grande and Gomez won’t be the first singers up for major acting awards, it will be the first time that the two will be contending in the same category.
