Thane: Four months after the body of a retired Merchant Navy officer, Mukesh Shyamsundar Kumar (62), was found in a travel bag, the police claimed to have solved the murder case with the arrest of a 54-year-old man. His 17-year-old son has also been apprehended.
The body was found at Varp village, Kalyan, in August. The father-son duo were distantly related to the man.
Senior inspector Suresh Kadam said Kumar was poisoned. “The bag with the body was left it in a garbage heap on Aug 14,” the officer said. A divorcee, Kumar lived alone. His ex-wife and children live abroad. The accused wanted to grab his property, police said. —Nishikant Karlikar
