MUMBAI: A day after a video went viral of a man in the nude entering the ladies’ compartment of an AC local at Ghatkopar station, the Kurla GRP registered an FIR on Tuesday and are looking for the man.
It turns out that home guards intercepted him after the incident and got him dressed, but they allowed him to leave as they were not aware of what he did. The FIR was filed under provisions of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita for obscene acts and under Indian Railways Act for unauthorised entry into a ladies’ compartment.
The incident occurred around 4.40 pm on Monday in a CSMT-Kalyan air-conditioned local. Police said the as-yet unidentified man was lying down on the platform at Ghatkopar station, dressed in a shirt and shorts. When the train halted on the platform, he suddenly took off his clothes and entered the ladies’ compartment. Shrieks from shocked passengers followed, and someone informed a ticket checker on the train. The ticket checker shooed him off the local in less than a minute since he entered.
During this time, someone dialled the station manager for help, and a GRP constable was called. He started to check individual compartments one by one.
“Two home guards on the platform spotted the man in the nude a little after he was shooed off the train by the ticket checker. They got him dressed and offered him some water. He then left on another CSMT-bound train. It was later, only when the GRP constable arrived for checking, did the home guards learn about the incident on the train,” said a police officer.
A video of the incident went viral on Tuesday, prompting the police to lodge a case. They checked CCTV footage and found that the man got off the CSMT-bound train at Matunga station. He spent some time at the station, begged for money, and purchased some food with it. Later, he boarded another CSMT-bound local and left. Police are now going through footage from all cameras at CSMT.
Sources in the GRP said the man appears to be going through a mental health condition and would have to undergo a psychiatric evaluation once he is traced.
