Naga Culture Shines in Mumbai: NSU Mumbai Celebrates 55th Nagas Meet cum Freshers' Day
Mumbai, October 10, 2026 (Shiksha Ka Yug): The Naga Students' Union Mumbai (NSUM) celebrated its 55th Nagas Meet cum Freshers' Day on Saturday . This year's theme was "Continuum." It celebrated how young Nagas stay connected to their roots, traditions and identity while living far from home.
A Soulful Opening in Traditional Attire
The event opened with a group song. Students in traditional Naga shawls and attire sang together to an acoustic guitar. A podium draped in a traditional Naga textile with tribal motifs set a cultural tone, and the performance drew warm applause.
Mumbai Meets Nagaland
The stage backdrop blended Mumbai's Taj Mahal Palace and Gateway of India with Naga wood carvings and green hills. At its centre, a young traveller carrying a traditional Naga bag walked forward. The image stood for every student who has come to Mumbai to study while carrying their heritage along.
Guests and Highlights
Ar. Aku Zeliang attended as Chief Guest, and artist Shau Evans performed. Dr. Railedelivered.
Welcoming the Freshers
Naga students newly enrolled in Mumbai's colleges and universities were formally welcomed. Seniors assured them the union would stand by them like family in the new city. Songs, dances and introductions helped new and senior students bond.
A 55-Year Legacy
For more than five decades, NSU Mumbai has brought together the Naga community studying and working in the city. The annual meet has become a symbol of cultural pride, unity and mutual support.
Sponsors
The event was supported by The Bunsik, Holika's Kitchen, Naga Chukka, Kamei Food Byte Grocery, Naga Belly, EAC News and Shiksha Ka Yug. The organisers thanked all sponsors and guests.
Conclusion
The event carried a clear message through its "Continuum" theme: the city may change, but the bond with culture and community stays. It was a fine example of India's unity in diversity.
