Mumbai: The special investigation and intelligence wing of customs arrested a 33-year-old woman and her friend from Raigad for ordering 26 kg of Methaqualone and marijuana worth Rs 10 crore. The agency intercepted a parcel at the internal courier terminal, which was in the name of Pooja More, a resident of Ulwe. Upon opening, they found 2 kg of white substance.
In order to trap her, the officers conducted a controlled operation and sent a dummy parcel to the consignee’s residence. They called her on the given number, and one Chandrakant Shinde picked up the call, claiming to be her husband. The official then asked Shinde to keep Pooja’s Aadhaar card ready as they needed the KYC of the person in whose name the parcel was booked.
When the official reached the house, both Pooja and Shinde claimed the parcel. The team apprehended both of them. During a search of their residence, the officials found 26 kg of fruiting flowering tops, purported to be ganja, neatly kept in 30 jars, and 817 grams of white powder, suspected to be narcotic substances. Both accused admitted to their involvement in the illegal trade of narcotics. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other individuals linked to this organised network.
