THANE: A 68-year-old man was rescued after he was trapped in an enclosed elevator of a seven-storey building in the Naupada area of Thane on Monday afternoon, officials informed.
The regional disaster management cell, Thane, informed that they were alerted about the incident around 2.35 pm when C G Satra, a sixth-floor resident of the G+7 Ishant Residency, was travelling in the building’s elevator.
Yasin Tadvi, in charge at the Thane RDMC, informed that the enclosed lift apparently developed some malfunction and got stuck around the third floor.
A few neighbours were alerted, who informed the fire brigade. They rushed to the spot, pried open the elevator door, and safely rescued the trapped senior citizen, Tadvi informed.
Meanwhile, residents and activists have raised questions about the rising incidents of lifts malfunctioning in the city.
A couple was stuck for nearly 30 minutes in a car lift in a Pokhran-1 high-rise on Saturday, while two residents and a minor boy suffered injuries after an elevator developed a snag and collapsed from the first floor of a prominent complex in the vicinity two months ago.
