Thane socs to discuss pets, self-redevpt at 3-day conclave

Thane: Representatives of 2,500 housing societies in Thane district are likely to participate in a mega conference to discuss pertinent issues, including feeding of strays and pigeons within society premises, pet-related protocols to be followed by owners, and self-redevelopment, among other matters.
Sitaram Rane, president of Thane District Co-operative Housing Federation Ltd, which has organised the three-day conclave starting Friday, told mediapersons they expect over 20,000 visitors. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and deputy CM Eknath Shinde, who also holds the crucial housing portfolio, will attend the event Saturday, said Rane.
“The issue related to pets and feeding strays within the complexes often causes conflict between society management and animal lovers, including welfare organisations, often escalating to disputes. There are also several misunderstandings and myths surrounding self-redevelopment projects, which will be brought up,” he said. The implementation of stricter regulations and protocols to be followed in pet-stray feeding cases needs to be included in society laws, he added.
