NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to commence his Lok Sabha election campaign in Uttar Pradesh with a rally in Meerut on Sunday, featuring Arun Govil, known for his portrayal of Lord Ram in the popular TV serial ‘Ramayan’, as the BJP candidate.
Alongside Govil, Rashtriya Lok Dal president Jayant Chaudhary, a recent addition to the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, will also be present on the stage.
The rally marks the beginning of PM Modi’s election campaign in Uttar Pradesh following the consecration of Lord Ram’s idol in Ayodhya. Arun Govil, who is highly regarded for his role as Lord Ram in ‘Ramayan’, represents the constituency where the campaign kickstarts. The coordination of the prime minister’s rally is entrusted to Anoop Gupta, the party’s state General Secretary.
The event is expected to draw attendees not only from Meerut but also from nearby constituencies like Baghpat, Bijnor, Muzaffarnagar, and Kairana. Senior BJP leader Govind Narayan Shukla expressed confidence that the Meerut rally would be a significant milestone for western Uttar Pradesh, emphasizing the party’s determination to secure all 80 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
Enhanced security measures have been put in place by the local administration in preparation for the rally, including a ban under Section 144 on flying drones, kites, or balloons within an eight-kilometer radius from the rally venue.
The upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh will be held across all seven phases, with polling scheduled for Bijnor, Muzaffarnagar, and Kairana constituencies on April 19, followed by Meerut and Baghpat in the second phase on April 26.
