Farmers begin Punjab Bandh, commuters irked

AMRITSAR: Farmers’ groups blocked key roads in Amritsar, causing major traffic disruptions and impacting the movement of goods and commuters.

Various farmers organisation have given a complete shutdown call from 7 am to 4 pm on Monday

Tractor trolleys were parked across the bypass, preventing vehicles from entering or exiting the city, which severely impacted the movement of goods, including milk and vegetables, and hindered commuters trying to reach their offices.
Notably, various farmers organisation have given a complete shutdown call from 7 am to 4 pm on Monday in support of their demands. Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal has been on an indefinite fast at the Khanauri border since November 26, urging the Centre to address and accept the farmers’ demands.
Despite announcements that ambulances would be allowed to pass, there was an instance where a person carrying a sick relative in his car was even unable to reach the barricades due to traffic to plead with the farmers for passage.
At the Fatehgarh Churian bypass, farmers laid carpets on the road as part and were seen manning the police barricades themselves, despite the heavy presence of security personnel.
Many shops especially dairies in the area were open, but farmers were making public announcements urging shopkeepers to close their businesses in solidarity with Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who had been on an indefinite fast for the past 34 days
