ULHASNAGAR: In order to legalise illegal construction in Ulhasnagar, some officials of the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation are deliberately harassing citizens for money and accusing them of delaying the same.
Local BJP MLA Kumar Ailani wrote a letter to the chief minister, requesting him to order the UMC commissioner to take action against such officials and also speed up the process of regularising illegal construction in Ulhasnagar through passed govt regulation.
Illegal construction is a big problem in Ulhasnagar, where many illegal buildings were built with low-quality material, and many people lost their lives due to the collapse of many buildings.
Since many buildings were illegal, these buildings could not be redeveloped. In such a situation, seeing the condition of the city and since many people of the Sindhi community came and settled here during partition from Pakistan, they built houses wherever they found space, and this is the reason why many illegal constructions were made here.
Therefore, in 2006, from a humanitarian point of view, the govt decided to legalise these illegal constructions by bringing a special law. After this, a large number of citizens of the city started applying with the necessary documents to regularise their constructions.
However, due to many loopholes in the passed act in 2006 and due to high regulation fees, very few people applied for regularisation, demanding the state to make changes in the act.
As per the requirement in the last few years, several changes were made in the passed regulation, and regularisation fees were also brought down. Amid all this, now, MLA Kumar Ailani wrote a letter to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and said in the letter that for the last several years, no concrete action was taken by the UMC on this issue.
It also came to light that money was being demanded from the citizens for this work, and the applications for authorising constructions were deliberately being kept pending by the officers and employees by finding some deficiency or another.
Ailani alleged this attitude of the Municipal Corporation caused resentment among the citizens of the city. He requested the chief minister to ask the UMC chief to take action against the concerned careless officers and employees and ask them to speed up the work of regularising unauthorised constructions.
Ailani said while regularisation will lead to unprecedented development of this commercial city, it will also bring a big change in the level of the city. The MLA said he has expectations from newly appointed Municipal Commissioner Vikas Dhakne, who set many records, that he will take this issue of the city seriously and insist on doing this historic work during his tenure.
