Hyundai Creta electric SUV spotted: Mahindra XEV9e rival's launch timeline, range, battery, specs

Hyundai Motor India recently revealed that the company will be launching the electric version of its best-selling SUV, the Creta EV in early 2026. There are also many rumours that the company will be showcasing the EV at the upcoming Bharat Mobility Expo 2025. When launched the Creta EV will directly compete with the MG ZS EV, Mahindra XUV 400, Tata Curvv EV and also recently launched Mahindra Be6e. It will also go up against the upcoming Harrier EV and the Honda Elevate EV.

The SUV has been spotted testing multiple times on Indian roads. And now, the company has once again been spotted testing the EV SUV in Chennai, Tamilnadu. Since the SUV was extensively covered, it’s hard to tell anything about its new design in detail but its upright silhouette looks similar to the existing model. In terms of design, the new Creta EV will use a design language similar to that of the ICE model. The profile may get a few changes to optimise aerodynamics but it will retain the signature features and design elements of the ICE powered Creta.
To differentiate the EV from the ICE model Hyundai will tweak a few elements. It’s expected to get a blanked-off grille with re-designed front and rear bumpers, a repositioned Hyundai logo and a front-fender-mounted charging port. The spotted vehicle also features aerodynamically designed alloy wheels which likely measure 17 inches.

Moving inside, the interior of the Creta was revealed previously, again with spy shots. The EV will have a similar dashboard layout with different upholstery. The EV will feature twin screens – one for the infotainment and one for the cluster. The EV will get a different steering wheel with a different style logo which is offered in EVs sold in global markets. It’s also expected that the drive mode selector will be mounted on the steering column. In terms of features, it gets EV-based UI for infotainment and digital cluster, dual-zone climate control, connected car tech, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, wireless charger, air purifier, panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, electric front driver seat, 360-degree camera, Level 2 ADAS suite and much more.

There are no details of the electric motor and the battery pack. The Creta EV is expected to be equipped with a 45-50 kWh battery pack with a claimed range of up to 450 kms on one full charge. Hyundai is also likely to offer multiple charging options, including fast charging capabilities, to ensure the Creta EV can be conveniently recharged at home or at public charging stations. A fully charged battery could take around 6-8 hours with a regular home charger, while fast chargers could deliver a significant charge in under an hour, making the EV more practical for everyday use.

With the launch of the Creta EV, the SUV will be broadly available in multiple engine options – all-electric, turbo petrol, NA petrol and a turbo diesel. Given the increasing demand for electric vehicles in India, Hyundai will want to position the Creta EV as an accessible and desirable option. The pricing of the Creta EV will be an important factor, as it needs to strike a balance between affordability and the premium features it offers.
