NEW DELHI: Communications and railways minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday said India is poised to grow by 6-8% over the next decade, led by a surge in investments in industry and greater economic activity.
“There has been a fundamental change in the way the country has been governed over the past 10 years under Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said, pointing out to the expansion activities in building of railway infrastructure and electronics manufacturing.
“A total of 40,000km of railway tracks have been electrified in the past decade, against 20,000km in the previous 60 years. We are adding 15km per day against 4 km that was added in the previous regime… In electronics manufacturing, we are now doing production of $110 billion against negligible levels earlier. Apple alone is hiring one lakh workers for its factories in India.”
On semiconductors and the recent investments that the sector has seen, he said that India will emerge as one of the top 5 destinations for chip manufacturing in the next five years.
On the upcoming elections, he said that the Modi govt is confident of not only making a comeback for a third term, but also getting over 400 Lok Sabha seats along with its partners. “People can see the work we have done.”
