Edwards-Helaire’s wife, JoJo, wasted no time celebrating the move. Taking to Instagram, she posted a three-word reaction that quickly made headlines: “I’m coming home.” For JoJo, a Louisiana native and Xavier University graduate, this move signals a homecoming. But for Edwards-Helaire, the shift might be more about reinvention than celebration.

Was Performance A Factor in the Chiefs’ Decision?
Clyde Edwards-Helaire burst onto the scene in 2020 as the Chiefs’ 32nd overall pick in the NFL Draft, rushing for an impressive 803 yards in his rookie season. However, his output has seen a steady decline since. By 2023, his rushing yards dwindled to just 302—a significant drop from his earlier form.
Though the fans were hoping that the Chiefs would retain Edwards-Helaire in a practice squad role, the team decided to do otherwise. Is it a cold, calculating move to get rid of the struggling player, or an honest attempt to reboot the player elsewhere?
Fresh Start and Emotional Goodbye
Edwards-Helaire took to X-Twitter to write an emotional farewell to the Chiefs’ franchise and their fans
“Love ya KC! A family I didn’t know I needed, y’all made a Kid from Baton Rouge dreams come true! To Chiefs Kingdom, its all love and the support I had in troubling times will forever be unmatched from you guys! With love! -Clydro,” Clyde tweeted.
And JoJo confirmed his husband’s move on Instagram by posting his picture at the airport. She captioned it: “And just like that.”

The move to the Saints is surely bittersweet, but for JoJo, returning to her home state may outweigh the emotional toll of leaving Kansas City.
Is New Orleans the Perfect Fit?
The Saints give Edwards-Helaire a chance to start anew, but his work will have to improve a lot to make an impact. For now, the fans are divided—some hope for a comeback, and others question whether his time as an elite NFL running back has passed.
