Mumbai: Arrested for allegedly abetting the suicide of a 25-year-old Air India (AI) pilot, who was discovered dead in her rented Andheri (East) residence last month, her 27-year-old partner, Aditya Pandit, has moved the sessions court seeking bail. The victim, Srishti Tuli’s family accused Pandit of ill-treatment and driving her to self-harm. In his plea, Pandit said that he rushed to the residence when the victim, Srishti, did not pick up the phone, opened the door with the help of a key maker, and rushed her to the hospital in a bid to save her life when she was found hanging. Pandit further said that by no stretch of the imagination, it can be said to be a case of abetment to suicide.
“It is also the case of the complainant (Srishti’s father) that the dispute between them was in respect of the food as the deceased was a non-vegetarian; however, the applicant (Pandit) was vegetarian and in view thereof, there used to be a dispute as regards to the food… It is also the case of the complainant that only because of the reason, she might have committed suicide,” the bail plea said. Pandit, a Faridabad native, was arrested on Nov 26.
The FIR was registered at the behest of Vivek Kumar Tuli, the deceased’s father and proprietor of a gas agency. The family occasionally visited Mumbai. On Nov 25, Vivek Kumar received news of his daughter’s suicide. Srishti died by suicide by hanging herself at her home at Marol, Andheri (E). Upon inquiry with Srishti’s friends, the father learned of her romantic relationship with the accused. Pandit and the victim were cohabiting for approximately 5-6 days prior to the incident. On the day of the incident (November 25), Pandit left for Delhi around 1 pm.
In his bail plea, he said, “… applicant made necessary telephone calls to the deceased and found that she is not picking up the phone, he himself went personally to the premises and since she was not opening the door, he called a key maker and got the door opened and thereafter, it was found that she was hanging….”
The bail plea will come up for hearing on Monday.
