NEW DELHI: Border Security Forces on Monday said that one of it’s constable stationed at the India-Bangladesh was assaulted and attempts were made to drag him across the border.
Constable Bhole, who was assigned to operate the fence gate, encountered a group of Bangladeshi individuals crossing the border illegally around 1.30 pm.
“At about 1330 hrs, a large group of Bangladeshi miscreants crossed over the International Border illegally and gathered near the fencing gate with the intention of smuggling sugar,” BSF said in its statement.
“Further, they started hurling abusive language and instigated the BSF Constable on duty with provocative language and vulgar gestures,” the statement added.
Their intention, authorities report, was to smuggle sugar.
The situation escalated as the group began hurling abusive language and making provocative gestures towards Constable Bhole. They subsequently assaulted him, attempting to drag him towards the Bangladesh side while seizing his weapon and radio set. Despite managing to escape, Constable Bhole sustained serious injuries from bamboo sticks and iron rods.
Following the incident, a commandant-level flag meeting was convened with counterparts from Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), where the BSF lodged a formal protest. The weapon and radio set were returned to BSF by the BGB.
