Mumbai: A goods train locomotive failure near Asangaon on the Kalyan-Kasara section led to disruption in local and outstation services on Central Railway for nearly an hour on Wednesday afternoon.
While a Kasara local was cancelled around 12.30 pm, two long-distance trains were diverted. The incident also affected the movement of other local trains, and there were crowds on several platforms.
Due to the Christmas holiday, trains were being operated on Sunday timetables, and this further impacted commuters who were travelling by local trains on Wednesday.
A commuter said: “We knew that the trains are running as per the Sunday timetable and the frequency will be less than that on normal days. But due to the Asangaon incident, we experienced a frustrating wait at the platform.” The railways, however, made announcements about the goods train problem and assured commuters that the problem would be resolved at the earliest.
