NEW DELHI: The Thane Municipal Corporation‘s emergency team and local police rescued an elderly couple who attempted suicide, an official reported on Thursday.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night in Waghbil, Thane, when the couple’s nephew alerted the Kasarwadavli police about their intention to hang themselves.
The couple, a 70-year-old man and his 65-year-old wife, were reportedly struggling with recurring health issues, prompting their decision. They had informed their nephew via SMS, leading him to contact the police.
The police immediately notified the Thane Municipal Corporation’s disaster management cell around 11pm. Rescue teams, along with the fire brigade, quickly arrived at the couple’s seventh-floor apartment, which was locked from the inside.
Accessing the flat through a neighboring apartment’s window, the team successfully stopped the couple within 10 minutes. The rescue personnel and police then provided counseling to the couple, persuading them against any further attempts to harm themselves.
