PATHANKOT: Security forces are on high alert on Wednesday following the sightings of two suspicious armed individuals moving in villages near the Pathankot district of Punjab, which borders the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) , Border Range, Rakesh Kaushal said that the suspicious movement was observed last night. In response, the area was cordoned off, and an alert was issued to other security agencies, including the Border Security Forces (BSF), Army and Air Force.
There is nothing to panic, as the security forces have the situation under control, he added.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Pathankot, Suhail Qasim Mir, said that the two armed suspects were observed moving in the outskirts of Kot Bhattian village in Pathankot, which borders the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir. “But the suspects were recently spotted moving towards Kot Pannu village in Kathua,” said Suhail.
The police and other security agencies are on high alert and begun the combing operation, he added.
On June 12, security forces had gunned down two terrorists and eliminated them who were believed to have infiltrated from Pakistan in Siada Sukhpal village, located in the Hiranagar sector of the Kathua district.
Earlier in 2016, Pakistani terrorists attacked the Pathankot Air Force base.
