Mumbai Police on Saturday suspended four policemen attached to Khar police station after a CCTV footage went viral in which the accused policemen are seen allegedly planting ‘drugs’ on a suspect before taking him into custody. The police has initiated a departmental inquiry after suspending the four.
The CCTV video had gone viral on Friday on social media platforms, in which two policemen were seen frisking a suspect while two others were present there.
In the video, one of the two policemen searching the suspect is seen taking out something from his pocket and later planting it on the suspect. The suspect was taken to the police station for possession of 20 grams of Mephedrone, but after the CCTV footage was widely circulated, police released the suspect after inquiry, said a source.
We too received the viral CCTV footage video and after preliminary inquiry we found that the four policemen in the video are attached to the Khar police station. The four did not follow the lawful procedure. Hence the four including an officer have been suspended and an inquiry has been initiated against them,” said Raj Tilak Roushan, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 9.
