MUMBAI: Ice creams have become more than just seasonal treats. With changing weather and better storage conditions, they have turned into year-round products, report Vipashana Kamble & Reeba Zachariah.
“Consumers no longer feel ice creams are only for the summer,” Mohit Khattar, CEO of Graviss Foods – master franchisee for Baskin Robbins in India and the SAARC region – said.He added temperature-controlled environments, like shopping malls, make outdoor weather irrelevant. “Whether it’s minus 2 degrees or 25 degrees outside, people are comfortable indoors and happy to enjoy ice creams.”
According to Khattar, another factor adding to demand is how products like ice cream sandwiches and popcorn ice cream have become integral to Indian snacking habits. Convenience is another key driver of ice cream sales, with Khattar pointing out that customer expectations for quick service have surged.
