NEW DELHI: Aam Admi Party (AAP) on Friday said that it will extend support to Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC). A formal letter of support was submitted by AAP for the Omar Abdullah-led government to the Lieutenant Governor’s office. Notably, Jammu and Kashmir has one MLA of AAP Mehraj Malik.
Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Mehraj Malik scripted history by defeating BJP’s Gajay Singh Rana by 4,538 votes on Tuesday (October 8, 2024) to win the Doda seat in the Jammu Kashmir Assembly elections.
AAP on Friday said, “Aam Aadmi Party will extend support to JKNC in Jammu & Kashmir. The letter of support has been submitted to the Lt Governor. J&K Assembly has one MLA of AAP.”
Earlier on Thursday, four Independent MLAs lent their support to the National Conference (NC), helping the party cross the majority mark in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.
In the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, Independent MLAs Dr. Rameshwar Singh, Choudhary Mohammed Akram, Satish Sharma, and Pyare Lal Sharma have decided to support the National Conference.
Omar Abdullah said that four of the seven Independent MLAs have pledged support to the NC, increasing the party’s strength to 46 members, crossing the majority mark in assembly.
The National Conference (NC) has secured a decisive majority following the recent elections. The Congress party, NC’s ally, won six seats, while the Communist Party of India (Marxist) secured one seat. With these victories, NC now possesses a clear majority in the assembly.
Omar Abdullah was unanimously chosen as the leader of the National Conference legislative group on Thursday, according to NC president Farooq Abdullah.
