The Indian Coast Guard‘s additional director general S Paramesh has been appointed as the new chief of the maritime force by the centre on Monday. He will take charge of his new role on Tuesday, October 15.
Currently, he is serving as the officiating Director General following the passing of his predecessor DG Rakesh Pal last month. With over three decades of distinguished service, he has held various prestigious ashore and afloat appointments.
An alumnus of the National Defence College, New Delhi, and Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, he has commanded major ICG vessels, including the Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessel Samar and Offshore Patrol Vessel Vishwast.
His key assignments include Deputy Director General (Operations & Coastal Security) and Coast Guard Commander (Eastern Seaboard). Paramesh is a recipient of the President’s Tatrakshak Medal and Tatrakshak Medal, along with several commendations. He is married to Priya, and also has a child.
S Paramesh’s predecessor DG Rakesh Pal Coast Guard director general Rakesh Pal, died of cardiac arrest in August during a visit to Chennai to take part in the inauguration of the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre.
