SURAT: A third-year resident doctor in the orthopaedic department of Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research (SMIMER) was suspended Wednesday for allegedly assaulting a Thai woman in the boys’ hostel. Rutvik Darji will remain suspended pending inquiry by dean Deepak Hovale.
According to case details, Darji had brought the foreign woman to the boys’ hostel on June 8.Eyewitnesses said the woman had dashed out of Darji’s room, shouting “danger”. Darji, partially clothed, was seen chasing the woman who ran about 300m before entering the police chowki inside SMIMER campus.
She told the cops that Darji had attacked her and slapped her multiple times. Following this, a woman cop called the police control room. Thai woman had refused to lodge an FIR. Later, police informed SMIMER authorities. “The woman is untraceable. We are unable to gather details from her side. The inquiry is based on CCTV footage and statements of eyewitnesses,” Hovale said.
