Noel Tata, the half-brother of the late Ratan Tata, has been appointed chairman of Tata Trusts, according to media reports.
Tata Trusts, the majority stakeholder in Tata Sons, oversees the operations of the diversified Tata Group. Ratan Tata did not name a successor before his passing.
Already a trustee of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and Sir Ratan Tata Trust, entities that together hold a 66% stake in Tata Sons, Noel Tata brings decades of experience within the Tata Group to his new role. He currently holds multiple senior roles, including chairmanship of Trent, Voltas, and Tata Investment Corporation.
His leadership extends across Tata companies, where his strategic oversight has been influential.
Aged 67, Noel Tata, is the son of Naval Tata and Simone Tata. He is married to Aloo Mistry, daughter of Pallonji Mistry, the largest individual shareholder in Tata Sons, and the brother-in-law of former Tata Group chairman late Cyrus Mistry.
Tata Trusts, India’s largest public charitable foundation, contributed approximately $56 million (Rs 470 crore) in donations during FY23.
